Down the road from Bansha Castle is a perfect little Irish bar. It’s a traditional bar…nooks and crannies, memorabilia hanging on the walls and lots of friendly locals leaning on the bar ready for a pint and a chat. What really makes Nellies bar so special? Nellie. Born and raised in the local Parish (rumor says almost 80 years ago), Nellie worked a bar her entire life, starting as barmaid in a local hotel before buying her little gem on main street over 20 years ago. I met Nellie when I walked into her bar with a group of overtired, very loud travel bloggers coming for a drink after a few very long days. We (all 15 of us) piled through the door, surprised a few regulars at the bar, but Nellie? She didn’t blink and treated us as if we had been coming to see her for ages. Drinks were poured, conversation shared, photos taken. Nellie took care of us and made us feel at home right away. And after Nellie pulls the the last, perfect pint and the conversation is winding down, she might even offer to drive you home. If you’re ever in Bansha, pay her a visit and tell her we love her.
