Villa Drakothea, A Luxury Villa in Mykonos
Villa Drakothea sits on the rocky cliffs above Lia Bay overlooking Dragon (Tragonisi) Island.
Antonis, the architect, artist, designer and owner of Villa Drakothea, met us at the airport and escorted us along the dusty, bumpy roads to the house. It was dark when we arrived but the villa was softly lit, the wind rippled across the infinity pool and the Milky Way shone brightly above the terrace.
Who knew the best was yet to come?
At 4am the next morning, our room took on a faint, gray-white glow. A few minutes later, the walls turned rosy pink and I dragged myself out to one of the stone terraces lining that back of the house. Everyone was awake, cameras in hand, completely silenced by what we were witnessing…a vibrant, distant sea of many colors, the pink glow of sunrise playing across the cliffs and caves of Dragon Island and a heavy mist dividing sea from sky.
Other islands in the distance came into view and disappeared again as the winds pushed the mist between the islands and beyond.
Thus began every day at Villa Drakothea. I planned activities for our Myknonos stay, yet we accomplished very few.
Every morning we woke to watch the sun climb from the ocean’s edge, drank coffee under the canopied chairs overlooking the grazing goats and wandered from spot to spot in the house appreciating the view from every nook and cranny.
Afternoons were filled with treks to the local beaches, long lunches in the tavernas and floats in the long, deep infinity pool overlooking the sea.
Evenings not spent in town were spent on the pool terrace, drinking wine and counting shooting stars.
Things to Know About Staying At Villa Drakothea
We’ve had great success choosing a home/flat/villa rental when we travel as a group. Villas offer better value than multiple hotel rooms with the added benefits (in this case) of a private pool, room to gather, cook (if we wanted to), complete privacy and all the services you can imagine.
The Villa has 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, maid service and private pool.
